Osogbo, Osun State – The Osogbo Muslim community was thrown into mourning on Thursday following the death of Imam Abdulhafeez Haroon Samogongo, the Chief Imam of Islahudeen Central Mosque, Alekuwodo. The young and vibrant Islamic scholar passed away in the early hours of July 3, 2025.

In a heartfelt condolence message, renowned legal practitioner and community figure Kunle Rasheed Adegoke (SAN), popularly known as K-RAD, joined thousands in paying tribute to the late Imam, describing his death as “a deep loss not only to the mosque but to the entire faith community in Osogbo and beyond.”

“Though young in age, Imam Abdulhafeez was towering in character, wisdom, and spiritual devotion,” K-RAD said. “His life was a testament to the reality that it is not the length of our years that defines us, but the breadth of the impact we make.”

Imam Abdulhafeez, known for his eloquence, humility, and ability to connect with people across generations, had become a spiritual compass for many youth in the area. His sermons were both comforting and thought-provoking, and his dedication to the path of Islam was evident in every gathering he led.

K-RAD emphasized that the true value of a person lies in how many lives they inspire, not how long they live.

“He touched countless lives through his teachings, his humility, and his sincere devotion to guiding others to the path of Allah,” he said.

In his tribute, K-RAD quoted from the Qur’an to offer comfort and perspective during the time of grief:

“Everyone shall taste death. And only on the Day of Judgment will you be paid your full recompense. So whoever is spared from the Fire and is admitted into Paradise has truly triumphed. For the life of this world is no more than the delusion of enjoyment.” (Qur’an 3:185)

Offering prayers for the deceased, he added, “May Allah forgive his shortcomings, expand his grave, and grant him Jannatul Firdaus. Imam Abdulhafeez’s legacy is not marked by numbers, but by the hearts he softened, the faith he revived, and the hope he inspired.”

Community members have continued to flood social media and local mosques with tributes and prayers, reflecting the depth of loss felt across the city.

Imam Abdulhafeez is survived by his family and a grieving congregation.

As Osogbo mourns, many are reminded through his life and passing that purpose, not duration, is what gives our lives meaning.
